On 23 August 1967, The Who reached the Holiday Inn in Flint, Michigan, after a concert celebrating Keith Moon’s twenty-first birthday. The party spread through the hotel: food flew, rooms were damaged and a confrontation around the swimming pool became the raw material for one of rock’s most repeated stories.

Moon later said that a Lincoln Continental rolled into the pool and that he escaped with a broken tooth. Other witnesses disputed the submerged-car detail, even while agreeing that the party and destruction were real. The episode follows the incident from birthday celebration to hotel expulsion, then shows how a disputed detail became more durable than the documented event.

That uncertainty is part of the story. Rather than treating the famous car as settled fact, C3 examines how Moon’s own retellings, the hotel’s damage and decades of rock mythology fused into a version audiences wanted to believe.
